Your brain is split in half.
But don’t worry, it’s something normal.
Each part is called a hemisphere.
And each hemisphere comes with intriguing functions.
Let’s see how they work!
The hemispheres
Every hemisphere has different inner workings.
The left hemisphere is skilled in language, logic and analytical thinking, while the right one is the center of creativity and emotion.
The right part is tasked with spatial and visual understanding or the way we see the world (literally), while the left one is about attention to detail.
The magic happens when these hemispheres unite through a bridge of nerves and they can share information.
To have a fully developed brain, you need to put both of the hemispheres in action by having a varied skill set from both the analytical side and the creative one.
Skills to develop
Reading is a skill that develops both the right and left areas: the left analyses the grammar and structure, while the right understands the plot and gets emotionally attached to it.
Also, art & design are domains in which both areas are stimulated: the left involves in planning and structuring, while the right on composition and color scheme.
Other skills that involve both:
sports
coding
architecture
navigation
language speaking
social skills
The myth of left and right brain people
You might have heard that some people are “left brained” or “right brained”, but there is no such thing.
Both of the hemispheres are used in daily life, without even noticing because most tasks require them.
The brain is very flexible, especially at a young age, and can develop one or the other hemisphere based on context.
That’s all for today! Hope this article helped you understand the nature of the brain and how to become more well-rounded.
