Are you not completing your tasks?
Do you feel exhausted or bored?
Then it’s time to switch your environment.
But how does it affect you?
The Specific Environment
The environment is the central place that allows you to work, relax or do other activities.
Every place is designed for a certain activity and problems arise when you do a task in the wrong place.
That’s why you need restrictions.
Eat only at the kitchen, not in the bedroom.
Work only at the desk, not in the kitchen.
And so on.
If you let yourself do the wrong activity in the wrong place, then there will be nothing stopping you from doing that and the lines between these spaces would blur.
How the environment affects you
The environment and how well it is designed will influence how well you perform an activity, how easy you get distracted and how much mental overload it’s going to put on you.
Cluttered desks create a great mental overload and they often reflect a more “chaotic” mind. Not only this, but having many items will create distractions for the subcounscious mind.
The color and aesthetic of the place also matter: Blue and Green symbolyze peace or serenity and can induce these feelings. Yellow creates an emotion of joy and red involves passion.
Now, changing your environment (moving to another place or just refurbishing the old one) can have surprising effects on our productivity. Turns out, our brains love novelty when it doesn’t come with threats or setbacks. This gives us a feeling of a “new start” that also comes with motivation.
Having plants around our working place also has a positive impact on our minds, often providing mental clarity and refreshment.
